CENTRAL COAST PONY ACADEMY
Learn, Grow, Gallop
At Central Coast Pony Academy we provide a nurturing and welcoming ranch atmosphere for boys and girls (ages 4 to 16 years) to develop a life long love and appreciation for horses. We believe in fostering the complete child through enriched experiences with ponies and horses. At Central Coast Pony Academy the experience is nothing short of magical! Head trainer Mercedes Christina Hanson creates an atmosphere that is not only safe but incredibly supportive for all students regardless of their skill level. Her dedication to the well-being of both students and animals is evident in the way she runs her academy. Every pony and horse is lovingly cared for, encouraging their temperament and willingness to engage with young students, thus allowing the child's skills to develop confidently and joyfully.
Because the ponies and horses are well cared for, they thrive in the loving and nurturing environment where your children will also thrive and learn.
Let Central Coast Pony Academy be your child's happy place!
Meet Mercedes

From the age of 5 yrs old Mercedes started her riding career with ponies at Griffith park in Los Angeles, CA. After her first encounter she could never see her life without having ponies and horses in it. She moved up to Western and English summer camps then to graduate over to private lessons. She fortunately found herself with her first horse, Minnesota, at the age of 10. Through the guidance of her Trainer; Robin Williams out of Industry Hills Equestrian Center, Ca, she was able to bring along her young 5 year old chestnut mare. There, Mercedes learned how to be patient and work through troubles with a horse who really didn’t know much herself. As the years went on they both grew and Mercedes had the opportunity to ride and help with all types and styles of horses / disciplines. When she got to college at California State University, Fullerton she realized that the equestrian team was dwindling so she found her best friend/ future business partner, Britney Callegari, to build up the team. Mercedes stepped into the roll of vice president and competed hunt seat equitation for CSUF in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA). She successfully helped win ribbons/ points for the team along with her teammates. During this time Mercedes had the opportunity to help with breaking and training horses in the SoCal area. Ranging from off the track thoroughbreds, miniature horses, ponies, gaited horses, draft horses, etc. Having her crazy dream of always wanting to be a horse trainer she finally turned her dreams to a reality with the help of her best friend. They started their lesson and training barn focusing in Hunters, Jumpers and Equitation with some amazing lesson horses along side them. Mercedes showed throughout SoCal successfully bring along young horses and helping clients with their horses. During this time she was asked to help coach the Claremont Colleges and Cal State Fullerton equestrian teams. With over 50 students and 9 lesson horses she successfully brought riders from knowing zero about horses to taking riders to nationals. Over the years Mercedes had the privilege of assistant training with Kristie Kurtze out of Chino Hills. Never losing her passion of horses and training Mercedes relocated to the beautiful Central Coast in 2020 and hit the ground running again; riding, training, and helping out riders with their horses. With patience, care and understanding the goals of each horse, pony and rider, Mercedes always takes a very careful and safe way of achieving everyone’s goals. Whether it’s just being more comfortable around the horses or a certain exercise to competitive showing, Mercedes will guide your goals to reality.
